Role-Playing Sivoa

TIME LINE
Sivoa as a setting is a little on the weird side because In addition to having locations it has a timeline.

This thread will be mostly about it's places, but I feel that I must first get the timeline out of the way so that some of the relevance of the places shows through. For example: Judy's bar wasn't built until the galactic age.
Tribal Era (TE)
Prehistoric Sivoa. Based on archeological digs, historians believe that the early Sivoan civilizations comprised mostly of small grouping, or tribes, of people. There isn't much insight to their culture, but they were huge!

Scientists have found that their bone structure's were built so that they were fierce hunters and prey to few other species. This is a stark contrast to the modern Sivoan, who typically stands upright (there are a few exceptions), is lightweight, and is omnivorous.

The humans of the era were similar in the fact that they had a huge build that allowed them to fight of predators, but they weren't much of a match to the Sivoans of the time. Because of this, they are believed to have developed the first forms of controlled magic.
Singsong Age (SA)
A short period theorized to have been not much longer than 100 years in which Sivoans passed information via word of mouth. Because of the intense curiosity that most Sivoans feel (even to this day) bards and storytellers were incredibly important figures.

Palaces with grand performance halls and arenas were used to house these infamous travelers and their audiences. It has been documented however, that these large structure were used to house huge fighting tournaments whenever there was no one staying in them.
Age of Learning (AOL)
The age of the bards ended abruptly with the invention of the printed word. Though few still held on to the trade, the prevalence of bards and storytellers faded out of the societies eye and into the background. This ended up becoming the age of writers, scientists, and magicians (who worked in conjunction to help feed the demand for knowledge).

Most of the palaces of the previous age were converted into grand libraries that housed as many books as could be crammed into them. Eventually new structures to house all of these books and scrolls were filled and new one's had to be built. The most notable in legend is the fabled Libris del sol.

Libris Del Sol (translated Library of the Sun) was rumored to be the point in which the heavens touched and poured knowledge and enlightenment into the walls of a library so grand that it housed every publication that was and will be written.

This legend, along with some others about similar locations plunged Sivoa into a global war over the territory that housed these structures. These wars ravaged the planet and unfortunately destroyed many of the libraries, plunging the world into a dark age.
First Contact (FC)
There are no Sivoan records of this as they were destroyed in the dark ages, but Earth has a single transmission recorded in its galactic databanks that states that earthlings have landed on Sivoa.
The Travelers (TT)
Because of this single transmission Earth discovered that the natives of Sivoa were friendly and organized an expedition to the before then, unnoticed planet. Their arrival about a century later pulled Sivoa out of it's dark ages, but was unable to recover anywhere near the amount of information that the planet had lost.
The Dark Ages (DA)
Much like the Dark Age on Earth, this was a period that nothing was recorded and entirely too much was lost. It didn't last for all that long, but the damage was irreparable.
Transition (Trans)
Transition is the appropriately named era in which the Sivoans were forced to try and transition the Earthlings into their global society. Some regions were for it, others were against it; in the end however, it worked out and the Sivoans were on their way to becoming a space-faring race.
The Galactic Age (GA)
While they were helping Sivoa get on it's feet with it's space venture, Earth continued searching the galaxy for other forms of life and actually found some (or were found by some). There were wars, there were treaties, and eventually it was decided that the most centralized location to form a galactic senate of sorts was the little planet of Sivoa.

Because of this spaceports were built and the already growing cities exploded. It was later discovered that almost the only reason that the planet had not been buried in cities was that alien technology had a tendency to corrode in the planet; magical atmosphere.

Alternate Universe (AU)
Everything that I said up there, thrown out the window. These threads are so you can take a character completely out of their element and play them in situations that would otherwise never exist.

The reason that I support this kind of RP is that sometimes they are the best way to develope something about a character that you wouldn't have been able to do before.
